What is CDMA technology?
cdma and gsm. CDMA is one of the technologies used in mobile
phones and mobile network, and CDMA stands for Code-Division Multiple Access.
CDMA technology is an example of multiple
access, as this technology makes it easier for multiple sending devices to
transmit any information at the same time using only one communication channel.
CDMA uses spread spectrum technology and a
special encryption scheme by assigning a specific code to each sender.
CDMA is the technology competing with the
cellular phone service technology known as GSM, which is considered the most
widespread and used around the world.
During the design of phones, a network operator
is added, and either this network operator supports CDMA technology or GSM
technology, but a phone cannot support both technologies at the same time.
CDMA technology is an American technology
designed by the American telecommunications company Qualcomm, and therefore
CDMA technology is mainly used in the United States of America and some Asian
countries in some operators of this service.
How does CDMA technology work?
CDMA technology uses spread spectrum technology
by spreading waves of electromagnetic energy to allow the signal to travel more
widely and within the limits of the frequency range.
Using CDMA technology, data, and voice packets
are separated using a set of symbols and then sent using a wide bandwidth, as
more space is allocated to the data in this technology.
Advantages of CDMA technology
- Transmit voice and data clearly and in high quality, and there are no sources of interference that affect the quality of calls.
- Accurate calls and reduce the percentage of missed calls by 15% compared to GSM cellular technology.
- A secure technology that provides high privacy and double protection from any illegal leakage of data or user calls.
- A health-safe technology, as the frequency signals it emits are very low. Therefore, the use of this technology is completely safe and does not cause any harmful radiation to human health.
- Reduce battery consumption of cell phones.
What is the difference between CDMA technology and GSM technology?
The difference between cdma and gsm will be clarified by comparing the two technologies at several
important points, as shown below:
First: in terms of coverage
Although CDMA technology has the advantage of
higher bandwidth, GSM technology is much superior in terms of wide coverage, as
it has more comprehensive international coverage for international roaming, and
GSM technology also covers rural areas more widely than CDMA.
GSM network technology is used in more than 80%
of mobile phone networks in the world, while CDMA technology is mainly used in
the United States of America, Canada, and Japan.
Second: In terms of compatibility between mobile devices and SIM cards
In phones that support CDMA, you cannot
transfer your information, including your phone number and contacts, to another
phone, even if you are using a SIM card, as you need permission from your
network operator to transfer your data from one phone to another when swapping
phones, for example.
The
reason for this is that CDMA networks store user information on the network
operator itself and not on SIM cards. While GSM technology uses SIM cards to
store user information.
Therefore, SIM cards on GSM networks are interchangeable, as you can
change your phone that supports GSM technology to another phone that also
supports GSM. You just transfer the SIM card to the new phone and all your data
will be transferred, including the phone number and others, and this is not
available in CDMA technology.
Third: In terms of sending voice and data
In CDMA network technology, it is not possible
to send voice and data at the same time. Therefore, because of this, you may
receive a lot of mail messages and other Internet notifications immediately
after ending your call in CDMA networks. The process of sending data also takes
place after ending the phone call.
Fourth: In terms of bandwidth
CDMA network technology operates in the 850 MHz
and 1900 MHz frequency bands, and the GSM network also operates in the 850 MHz
and 1900 MHz frequency bands.
